I want it... but they aren't fooling me again. Bought a 3960x on TRX40 expecting an upgrade path, but alas, it never came. The socket before that got at least one refresh.
Not an inspiring track record. Disappointing considering how long the regular consumer sockets last
- treesciencebot 3y agoAt least for the HEDT variant, I actually believe we are a point where we can potentially see one or more (less likely) refreshes considering the main problem with prev gen was I/O (releasing a new platform at the end of PCIE 4.0/DDR4 was not extremely wise of AMD). Obviously this is under the assumption that we’ll get a launch per year (same cycle as consumer variants).
- bravetraveler 3y agoHonestly, I'd buy a PCI-e gen4/DDR4-based TR system on the latest Zen/TRX40, today - right now. I [and I'd argue, most] don't need faster lanes. I need more [or the same number] of them. Quad channel DDR4 did well to keep it fed in my experience, but maybe I'm not close enough to the metal.
