Not sure if this is such a big deal. Sounds like a big deal if you're stuck with the CentOS mindset and looking for an alternative.
I have been using Ubuntu and Pop!OS (both 22.04LTS) side by side for a couple of years. One difference is that Ubuntu has been busy backporting and patching fixes into the 5.15 kernel, the System76 fork has steadily upgraded the kernel — I think we're at 6.4.
Haven't run into a single problem with Pop! that I attribute to this, and I think this is the more sane approach. Of course there is pressure to not upgrade, don't fix things that ain't broken. But stuff will inevitably break anyway: leave a service unpatched and you get hacked OR change something a 1000 times and at some point you'll run into an unforeseen interoperability issue.
So if (for whatever reason) I were forced to stay pinned to over a decade to a specific distro version, I'm not so sure I would trust these type of long-distance backports over keeping current that parts that can more or less "safely" be kept current.

Canonical documents how: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack This gets you kernels from later releases on the LTS version. So no, not the latest kernels, but from the vendor and fully supported. If you don't care about support, either install the OEM kernel: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/OEMKernel https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/OEMKernel Or the Mainline one: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds Or an external 3rd party one such as Liquorix or XanMod, which I have written about here: https://www.theregister.com/2022/02/25/friday_foss_fest_liquorix_kernel/ https://www.theregister.com/2022/02/25/friday_foss_fest_liqu...
