How the hell do euros spend 5 years proudly bragging about their GDPR to the rest of the world and then go ahead and even consider something like this? I assume this doesn't directly violate the GDPR but even so it seems like an obvious contradiction to the spirit and intent of GDPR.
- rad_gruchalski 3y agoI don’t understand what confuses you so much. This is for “the safety”. “Trusted governments” will make sure “exemptions” are in place and everything will be “okay”. Why worry, do you have something to hide?
- anfogoat 3y agoThis weakens your privacy with regards to sharp governmental powers, something the GDPR never strengthened or addressed to begin with due to its categorical exemption of law enforcement. Well, competent law enforcement (if you needed a laugh). And to all the EU cheerleaders about to educate me how, thanks to the GDPR, my local municipality has to treat my email with care when I go ask for a building permit: go gaslight your grandma instead.
- alexanderchr 3y ago"Competent" in this usage means "empowered" not "proficient".
- anfogoat 3y agoCan't believe I missed that, especially for how off it seemed in the latter form. Thank you.
- alexanderchr 3y agoNo it’s not at all a common use of the word, stumped me too the first time I saw it used like that.
- stavros 3y agoWell, because I'm the euro who did the bragging about our GDPR, but won't even consider something like this. I don't know who is in the set of people who want this, let alone the set of people who want this while bragging about the GDPR.
