.sharp is a brand TLD like .apple or .ford
One cool trick is to learn about a TDL is to visit nic.TLD to get info about the domain, for example https://nic.sharp/ https://nic.sharp/
- alberth 3y agoIs nic.TLD a required information page? Because I've found some that don't have it, like https://nic.amazon https://nic.amazon
- 8ytecoder 3y agoNot ideal or informative but it exists - http://nic.amazon/ http://nic.amazon/
- gen3 3y agoI am not sure, at minimum it seems to be standard practice. It stands for network information center, and there is a lot of variation when it comes to information provided and tools they offer. For that amazon link, I think the underlying website is just flakey. I was able to get the page to load once, here is an archive link of it working https://web.archive.org/web/20230616013716/https://nic.amazon/ https://web.archive.org/web/20230616013716/https://nic.amazo...
- mcpherrinm 3y agoRunning http://whois.nic.$GTLD/ http://whois.nic.$GTLD/ is required, but I believe it's fine to have nothing on nic.$GTLD directly. Some examples: https://whois.nic.sharp https://whois.nic.sharp http://whois.nic.amazon http://whois.nic.amazon https://whois.nic.horse https://whois.nic.horse https://whois.nic.google https://whois.nic.google https://whois.nic.trust https://whois.nic.trust See the gTLD guidebook here: https://newgtlds.icann.org/sites/default/files/guidebook-full-04jun12-en.pdf https://newgtlds.icann.org/sites/default/files/guidebook-ful... Section 4.1 on page 268 of the PDF covers whois.nic.$GTLD
- eggsome 3y agoHmmm, interesting. Looks like .au does not comply and .com.au has a domain squatter.
- mcpherrinm 3y agoThese only apply to the new generic TLDs. Country codes can basically do whatever they want.
