Northeast sheep population could grow from 200k to 300k as solar spreads
- chiefalchemist 3y agoA 50% increase in supply (at least in the Northeast) and not a single mention of how that is going to drive down the prices for the byproducts of those sheep. That is, you can't use current prices for the cost benefit analysis of the effort because the effort is going to impact the market. That aside, there are plenty of crops that do better in less direct sun. I guess the question is, can the solar arrays be built in such a way that farming under them is possible and still profitable. Another alternative would be interstate highways and take advantage of the area between the north and south bound lanes. There are not trees so getting a clear line of sunshine is simple enough. Sure they might go on for miles but the square mileage is available. Otherwise that land is only collecting dust. It seems unlikely there would be NIMBY pushback. The only issue to solve would be occasionally vehicles lose control and go off the road into that middle area. But given its free and useless land currently that issue feels solvable.
