Isn't Tinder the dating app that seems focused on casual hookups?
On a regular dating app it is strange, but I can understand why some might want it to allow the age old mothering trope of "oh you should date my friend's child, they'd be perfect for you." On Tinder it feels worse.

- solardev 3y ago> Isn't Tinder the dating app that seems focused on casual hookups? Started out that way, but I think it's no longer just that. But since Match Group bought up pretty much everyone except Bumble and eHarmony and the Christian sites, they've all become pretty similar anyway. It's too bad.

- User23 3y agoTinder originally was Grindr for straight people, so yes it was focused on hookups. It was just a straight up copy. I guess that both have since evolved. I think it's fascinating, albeit somewhat horrifying, watching how inducing mostly heterosexual women to adopt a typically homosexual male dating strategy is playing out in our society.
- solardev 3y ago> watching how inducing mostly heterosexual women to adopt a typically homosexual male dating strategy is playing out in our society. Maybe some portion of them always wanted this, and society just didn't allow them? It's nice that dating apps normalized transparency around these topics, though. Now it's totally fine to say "not looking for a relationship" or "no hookups" or "open to anything short or long term" or "looking to start a family", all right there in the first few sentences alongside "must be fit" or "no gamers" or "no Christians".
- User23 3y ago> Maybe some portion of them always wanted this, and society just didn't allow them? I don't see how it's possible to know what people "aways wanted" because people respond to changing incentives. By revealed preference we can reliably conclude that a portion of people want to shoot up and crap in the streets too. Did they always want to or is it a behavior pattern that's been adopted due to changing circumstances and arguably warped incentives?
