I think we're right on the precipice of a catastrophic shift in news/video/audio thanks to AI and deepfakes
Given how good deepfakes are now, how long before we have a video released to the major news outlets of the world of a world leader saying something very dangerous and scary. i.e. Putin could announce an all-out invasion of the US, Biden could announce aliens have landed and are here to exterminate us, etc. etc.
It could be something more benign like the NASDAQ has gone into a catastrophic dive never before seen, or that Tesla have been found to be breaking too many laws and are being shutdown effective immediately. (That might be a good way for the shorts to profit...)
I think it's literally a matter of months until it happens... and from that day forward we will never again be able to trust any video or audio recording. Ever.

- gosub100 3y agoI really hope all the Modern Major Generals at DoD, the ones who relentlessly plan their "strategies" for how WWIII will play out, incorporate this into their threat models. It's not as glamorous as the logistics, the horsepower, the death count, but it's probably one of the most likely scenarios that could lead us into war (and nearly has a few times due to false alarms). It should be a pact with all nuclear powers : "unless we see ICBMS flying towards us (with our own classified eyes in the sky)" we will not press the button.
