Rapid ice melt in west Antarctica now inevitable, research shows
- pk-protect-ai 3y agoI do not believe people will care about this until it is too late. It is so sad to watch how the majority of the population ignores it, and the elite believe they will escape unscathed from this mess. Edit: The total sea-level rise from the complete melting of the Greenland ice sheet, the Antarctic ice sheet, and ice in the North Pole and Alaska can be estimated to be about 65m. Water vapor is one of the most potent greenhouse gases and will accelerate the melting of the ice sheets.
- Graziano_M 3y agoHonest question: Where is 'west' Antartica?
- lotteryland 3y agoIt’s the half that’s west (that is, toward 90 degrees) of the Trans Antarctic Mountains. I agree and was curious too, kind of a funny deal. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Antarctica https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Antarctica
- marssaxman 3y agoYou can think of "West Antarctica" as being "west" in the sense that it is located primarily in the western hemisphere, and likewise "East Antarctica" is mostly in the eastern hemisphere.
