You get to be the largest and most-profitable carmaker, aka Toyota. I only buy used cars, and past the ~7-year-old range used Toyotas routinely cost about twice as much as any other brand for equivalent model/mileage/condition. Yet I still pay the markup because every time I work on mine I am astonished by the fanatical obsession they have with reliability. I'm sure this value retention is reflected in the profit margin on new Toyotas.
