San Francisco could get 90% of homeless off streets but landlords fighting it
- ggm 3y agoDuring covid, Brisbane got all the rough sleepers into student accommodation, empty because the overseas students had been asked to go home. Post covid, the numbers are creeping back up. The funny thing is, every level of government acknowledges it was CHEAPER to provide stable housing, than to deal with the problems which come with life on the streets. It's analogous to diversion programs for drug crime: keeping people locked up is ruinously expensive compared to keeping them out of the prison system in the first place.
