  People that discern differences in volume from ALL CAPS are... Well... Odd. It is literally your own brain constructing an ideation off of a visual stimuli. Just... Don't do that. Or modify it. Learning to goose your brain out of a rut is a good skill. I'd hate to have seen how you all would have faired in the days of the telegraph where it was transcribed/printed all caps all the time.

    I'm trying to desensitize myself by looking at COBOL. Well, really to understand the fundamental relationship of programming as serving the reporting function of a business. But desensitization would be nice. It hasn't worked so far; fortunately, there's no such thing as visual tinnitus.

    All caps is commonly understood to mean shouting today. I'm not sure how we get from that understanding to "That understanding is odd." It's a literary device that predates computers, and as soon as computers picked up lowercase letters the existing convention came through to that medium.
