The Stasi museum is incredible. I lived in Berlin some years back, I was amazed that as soon as I got off the UBahn, it was like I was back in 1965. The headquarters is still maintained, but a lot of the other buildings had broken windows and were falling in. Just down from that museum is where they are tediously trying to reconstruct the shredded documents from that era, and where they still are reviewing the files kept on every citizen. Absolutely worth the visit.
