Experts say motorists are rejecting White House push for electric vehicles
- PaulHoule 3y ago… pickup trucks. That’s what GM would have tried if they wanted EVs to fail. The automotive preens repeats, like the brainwashed soldiers in The Manchurian Candidate that American consumers are stuck on large cars. There’s a kernel of truth that but this story has been censored. Go to a car dealership and try to buy a small car, at least since the 1970s, and the dealer will give you all kinds of excuse why they can’t sell you one. For instance the small model might be unavailable new. The factory washed out in a flood. However they have 100 big vehicles made in the same factory that are sitting in a row unsold. They have one used example of the smaller model that somebody traded in the day before and will confess that they can’t keep them on the lot. From their point for view, if you buy a $25,000 car when you could have bought a $50,000 car that is $25,000 they won’t have a chance to get from you for 10 years. That goes for the dealer, the UAW, the executives and shareholders of the car company, all of it. The was a short time after the 2008 crisis that American car companies got better while Japanese companies converged with American. (Toyota would love to kill the Corolla but they know if they do that, Corollas with 100,000 miles on them will sell for new car prices.). The the car companies said “if you want us to invest in EVs we need to make big profits in big cars” and then COVID-19 disrupted everything and we are where we are now… Lots of of XL and XXL and XXXL and larger EVs that people can’t afford that they… don’t buy.
