I found the references to god and religion in a technical article off-putting as well. I tried hard to think of it as an attempt at humor, but I could not shake the feeling that the writer was a very religious person. I tend to value the technical opinions of deeply religious people less. If you actually believe in magic, then I am going to have a hard time trusting you with anything critical.
