QMUL is an awful dystopia. I gave a lecture there once as a guest professor and was stuck in a corridor for 30 mins. It's one of those places where every damn door has a card or keypad access. Perfectly fitting for a military establishment like Porton Down of course. Not so much for a university where we're teaching mathematics. So, after going for a piss, I was stuck in a freezing hallway while the students wondered where I was and eventually sent out a search party to rescue me. Completely illegal according to fire regulations I am told. One should always be able to get out. But that doesn't matter I guess, because universities think they are laws unto themselves and do as they please to staff and students alike, treating us as rats in their little Skinner maze.
