Reddit can survive without search': company reportedly threatens to block Google
- Iulioh 3y agoOh boy That would kill reddit usefulness really fast , it can't be real And there is the reddit search function, couldn't ""bad actors"" use that ?
- BiteCode_dev 3y agoNot it can't. It's way too big and the subs are way to siloed to exist without search.
- entuno 3y agoA lot of people append "reddit" when they search for stuff on Google to try and find better results (rightly or wrongly). Killing that and forcing people to login to access any content would be a crazy move for them. I wonder if this is just bluster, or if they're still desperately trying to look more valuable for an the IPO (if that ever actually happens).
- jimmytucson 3y agoreddit has its own search feature but it doesn’t seem like they’ve poured a lot of cash into it yet. I imagine that would change if they were to block Google and Bing.

- kromem 3y agoReddit increasingly reminds me of a four year old who reached into a cookie jar and now their hand is stuck because they tried to grab too much at once, but rather than let go of at least some of what they want to grab they've decided to just sit there and cry about it until they starve.
