'This will be our last post' – LBRY throws in towel against the SEC
- EdwardDiego 3y ago> The SEC originally sought a punishment of $22 million but then downgraded that to $111,000 when it realized the defunct firm couldn’t pay. Lol. But, serious question, punishment for what? The article oddly omitted that.
- richardjam73 3y agoSelling unregistered securities.
- 0dayz 3y agoI assume when they mean that odyssey is going to be fine, they mean that because it's decentralized it can stay on forever? I've personally always liked Peertube more, coincidentally the creator also got Kauffman as their surname.
- 22c 3y agoMore likely is that Odysee is going to be sold/spun out into a separate entity.
- jl2718 3y agoWhat exactly is it that made this token a security, and why was it targeted versus any of the other tokens that were marketed and sold for common enterprise and future profits? I didn’t follow because I didn’t realize that it was connected to a decentralized YouTube competitor. Now it has the appearance of being motivated not by securities law, but censorship. I’m sure they also violated SEC rules, but I’m wondering exactly how so, and how it could be avoided for a future incentivized P2P video network.
- Guvante 3y agoMost tokens are sold on the future of the platform. Basically "if everyone uses this coin it will be more valuable". By introducing a distinct product through which revenue would be gained it seems naively to mean it is now about sharing profits of an endeavor.
- prepend 3y agoIsn’t “this is our last post” more accurate, or at least equally accurate?
