Both films you mention are from Dennis Villeneuve, it's probably just his stylistic look and cinematography in general that you don't like. There are much better examples of bad cinema to contrast against Blade Runner, plus there's not a lot of neonoir.
- keiferski 3y agoI’m aware both are by the same director, and I used them as examples of modern style as a whole. It’s not merely his stylistic look.
- AlotOfReading 3y agoWhat other directors do you think look like him? I actually like his style, so more would be great. It's essentially cinematic brutalism, which I think is perfect for stories like blade runner and Dune. The intimating and oppressive environments do a great job visually communicating the dystopian societies to the viewer.
- keiferski 3y agoI think you'd have a difficult time distinguishing his films from most other sci-fi films made today. It's minimal, overly digital, lacking in atmosphere or "dirtiness" that gave so many 80s films their atmosphere. Just watch Escape from New York, or Blade Runner, or The Fifth Element and compare them to something made today.
