Jon Stewart's show on Apple is over because of disagreements about China
- cs702 3y ago> [Apple] had concerns about the subject matter Stewart planned for three shows during the upcoming season > [Stewart] grew increasingly frustrated that the company was pushing back on the show's guest list and show subjects, he told staff I had a lot of respect and admiration for Jon Stewart before this. Now I have even more.

- brucethemoose2 3y agoIMO title is clickbaity, as there seem to be other contributing factors (like declining viewership and quality). Apple TV also tends to focus on quality over quantity, which I really like, so I raise my eyebrows a bit less when they cancel something that's only "OK." Not that this is OK, I just don't like the title.
- tedunangst 3y agoOn the one hand, there shouldn't be restrictions on the stories you report. On the other hand, if the result is reporting zero stories, is that better? I feel like there are more important stories that Stewart could cover, in more depth, than simply raising awareness that Apple has business ties to China. This story will cycle out and become nothing soon enough.
- cs702 3y ago> there are more important stories that Stewart could cover, in more depth, than simply raising awareness that Apple has business ties to China That's not what Stewart wanted to cover. According to him, he wanted to cover China, period. Did you read the OP?
- tedunangst 3y agoQuitting in protest only tells us Apple has business ties to China. We still don't get the story he wanted to report.
- quantified 3y agoQuitting in protest tells us that Apple's business ties to China are causing Apple to nix the reporting and analysis he wants to do, which would be critical of China in some way. Our experience with John Stewart is that it's likely fair and nuanced. But Apple is concerned about thin skins and rightly so. I hope we can get the story. It won't go onto XTwitter, for the same China reasons. He'll have to use a national, not international, medium.
- mock-possum 3y agoBetter to have integrity / keep your honor, imo. Otherwise you lose credibility in the eyes of your audience.
- c420 3y agoI guess we won't be getting "Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey" on Apple TV, either.
