AI generated images of tragedies is such a stupid thing to do, especially when there are real and actual tragedies recorded. It destroys the credibility of your side. It's just such a short-sighted thing to do.

- jfengel 3y agoMany people won't see the correction. Many who do will dismiss it as false. Even those who accept that they were fooled will still have lingering doubts. This particular propaganda war has been going on for decades. The credibility of both sides is poor. The credibility of Hamas is especially bad, which just means that their supporters are already primed to uncritically accept even clear falsehoods. There's little downside to them for faking evidence. It just reinforces the status quo.

- prepend 3y agoI think something changed in the past few years that boils down to “it’s ok to lie if it’s for the right cause.” And it drives me crazy because it’s so short sighted. I’ve had this argument with friends and they adamantly don’t care because “the other side lies.” The idea of taking the high ground and being right seems to have gone away to “win at any cost.” But I think that when you do dumb stuff like falsify data, it makes you untrustworthy forever.
