Here it is (I think...):
"Mr Cosgrave criticised the conflict in the Gaza region in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying he was “shocked at the rhetoric and actions of so many western leaders & governments, with the exception in particular of Ireland’s Government, who for once are doing the right thing. War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are.”"

- salawat 3y agoGood on him. In this world it seems that self-referential inconsistency is increasingly maligned; an increasingly concerning source of chagrin, in my opinion.
- kibibu 3y ago> self-referential inconsistency is increasingly maligned What does this mean? People don't accept arguments that contradict themselves? Why is that a problem?
- salawat 3y agoThe violation of self-referential consistency comes in when the Israelis engage in behavior which is commonly recognized at being war crimes, but expect to be able to fend off International judgement/disapproval eith the bulwark of a stigma tagainst anti-semitism, and that not agreeing with them or backing is somehow an act of thereof. Every other Western Nation would be lambasted for engaging in the same types of activity the Israelis get up to on the regular with regard to Palestine. It's been over 50 years since they unilaterally flouted the Palestine Partition plan (the last Internationally agreed upon good faith status quo), and went about reshuffling their borders as they see fit, with the West sitting back and funneling them the money and Arms to do so. I may not have to deal with angry rocket toting neigbors on the reg, but I also conduct myself in a manner such that my neighbors don't feel the need to lob rockets in my direction. Takes two to casus belli.
- rbanffy 3y agoI don't think it's inconsistent to condemn both Hamas and Israeli leadership for this. One important lesson I learned from South American politics is that the way to disarm armed resistance is to bring them to the negotiating table. Once feared as a destabilizing force for the whole continent, Colombia's FARC are now a political party.
