All that reading and they couldn’t take the time to mention what exactly he said that was so bad? Nope, not gonna share that info. Just feel outrage, dammit.

Nope, not gonna share that info.
Just feel outrage, dammit. Words are violence. Silence is violence. Be mad. Feel rage, demand blood sacrifice. /s

I don’t mind the downvotes, par for the course and showcases my point.
- lainga 3y agoHere it is (I think...): "Mr Cosgrave criticised the conflict in the Gaza region in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying he was “shocked at the rhetoric and actions of so many western leaders & governments, with the exception in particular of Ireland’s Government, who for once are doing the right thing. War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are.”" https://www.irishtimes.com/business/2023/10/20/google-pulls-out-of-web-summit-over-cosgraves-israel-hamas-comments/ https://www.irishtimes.com/business/2023/10/20/google-pulls-...

- salawat 3y agoGood on him. In this world it seems that self-referential inconsistency is increasingly maligned; an increasingly concerning source of chagrin, in my opinion.
- kibibu 3y ago> self-referential inconsistency is increasingly maligned What does this mean? People don't accept arguments that contradict themselves? Why is that a problem?
- salawat 3y agoThe violation of self-referential consistency comes in when the Israelis engage in behavior which is commonly recognized at being war crimes, but expect to be able to fend off International judgement/disapproval eith the bulwark of a stigma tagainst anti-semitism, and that not agreeing with them or backing is somehow an act of thereof. Every other Western Nation would be lambasted for engaging in the same types of activity the Israelis get up to on the regular with regard to Palestine. It's been over 50 years since they unilaterally flouted the Palestine Partition plan (the last Internationally agreed upon good faith status quo), and went about reshuffling their borders as they see fit, with the West sitting back and funneling them the money and Arms to do so. I may not have to deal with angry rocket toting neigbors on the reg, but I also conduct myself in a manner such that my neighbors don't feel the need to lob rockets in my direction. Takes two to casus belli.
- rbanffy 3y agoI don't think it's inconsistent to condemn both Hamas and Israeli leadership for this. One important lesson I learned from South American politics is that the way to disarm armed resistance is to bring them to the negotiating table. Once feared as a destabilizing force for the whole continent, Colombia's FARC are now a political party.
- hasmolo 3y agoit's a claim of war crimes. isreal was blamed, which seems to be the issue in this case. this is not a case of a direct pro palestine statement, but more anti-isreali sentiment > he labelled Israel’s retaliation to the October 7 attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas as “war crimes” and compared the conflict to the Troubles in Ireland, on the social media platform X (formerly called Twitter) last week.
- 0xDEF 3y agoI think he is being cancelled for being critical of Israel and because he and Web Summit have ties to Qatar.
- happytoexplain 3y agoI haven't clicked your link yet or the story link - I don't know who said what about what, so I have no opinion yet. If you write in a bitterly sarcastic style, and especially if you sarcastically put words in people's mouths, as you have done, and then you say "the downvotes prove my point" - it looks very bad. It's a huge red flag that you aren't being honest. This is my advice - not an opinion that you are being dishonest. I'm saying you should avoid doing what you did, because it severely undermines you.
- salad-tycoon 3y agoI’m trying to understand your critique and you are right it is bitterly sarcastic but I don’t think it undermines my point. For background, I’ve worked extensively with veterans and their families in the past. War sucks. It really really sucks. It ruins people for generations in both overt and covert ways. I can’t, in this space, communicate how much I hate the atrocities that comes out of war so I use sarcasm directed at all the arm chair generals sitting in their towers riling people up to send their boys (and girls in certain countries) to go slaughter and be slaughtered in horrific, soul crushing ways. Fuck those people with no skin in the game pushing for conflict. This is an equal opportunity “f u” by the way. All war has innocent and combtants raping pillaging murder etc. it goes hand in hand and for some reason people just love putting “our team” against “the other team.” Maybe this proves your point, I appreciate the critique regardless and did try to take it to heart.
- Zetobal 3y agoAnd instead of just looking it up yourself you decided to do the same as them, spreading outrage about nothing? Love the dissonance.
- salad-tycoon 3y agoI posted the tweet in a reply and edited my post prior to you posting your comment. Just saying. Anyways, I didn’t report this story. That’s the point, this story steers people to feel a certain way but without substance. Maybe what he said was truly remarkable or maybe it wasn’t but who would know with reading most of the articles? You wouldn’t, you would just “feeeeel” like the guy is probably an insensitive prick who said some dumb pro murder stuff (personal interpretation, granted). I object to coddling adult minds and withholding facts.
- Zetobal 3y agoNo, you come over as someone who likes and engages in drama.
- salad-tycoon 3y agoMoving goal post. Pointless critique and incorrect facts. Anyways, I’m here for discussion and appreciate a lot of the insightful and difficult comments other posters make and use it to learn and challenge myself. Sorry if triggers you, anyways I did post the links and I’m sorry you don’t like conflict. Let’s just agree to disagree, it’s okay.
- Zetobal 3y agoI made a tiny little script and used it analyze your profile with chatgpt it says the same. :>
