Delphic Hymns
- jihadjihad 3y agoThis is kind of tangential / OT, but one of the interesting things I came across when reading Herodotus is that the "Oracle" at Delphi that was so popularly sought for her prophecies was called the "Pythia" [0]. I don't know if it's the Python programmer in me that was intrigued about it or what, but it is just kind of neat that she is named after the giant serpent slain by Apollo, and I had never heard that before. 0: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythia
- fipar 3y agoThere’s a Canadian company focused on databases called Pythian (I worked there a few years ago) that takes its name from Pythia because they started as an Oracle services company, which I thought was a nice word play. When I visited HQ in 2017 there was a painting or a statue (can’t remember) of Pythia in the reception.
