This is only my experience. I had great organic reach for my page. I thought I will get even more if I advertise it. Big mistake. Advertising helped a bit, but the moment I stopped paying they cut my organic reach. I'll never touch advertising again. It seems to be designed for start ups with VC money to burn and not small business.
