It's still shocking to me that people - alive and well today! - used to have:
* full service gas stations
* live in maids
* a mailman, milkman, iceman, and paperboy they knew the names (and birthdays!) of
Call it false nostalgia or what you will, but we lost the plot somehow on paying for dignity-as-a-service.
