Their plugin system is interesting, they embedded a V8 engine to run JavaScript to then make some api calls to the various platforms. I am 99% sure this is against each platform ToS and that they will get sued by Twitch, YouTube, etc. Especially since they are asking people to pay. But I wish they good luck!
- wizhi 3y agoIs this any different from other alternate YouTube apps like NewPipe?
- Sytten 3y agoNewpipe scrapes the HTML, its against the ToS but harder to block.
- e-clinton 3y agoScrapping HTML can’t be against ToS…didn’t that judge ruled it legal to do in that case against LinkedIn?
- syncbehind 3y agoIt can be against the ToS, but ToS aren't legally enforceable in a court of law.
- dre_bot 3y agoNewPipe is also not being sold.
- tcfhgj 3y agoCan't you use the APIs without accepting the TOS?
- hiccuphippo 3y agoIf you start using something without ever reading the ToS, did you accept it?
- _5ygc 3y agoI’m not sure about these specific platforms, but we consume a lot of APIs at work for which we must agree to specific conditions of these APIs. That seems reasonable, otherwise the TOS cannot be enforced (because they can be ignored).
