I see so many flaws.
The article claims almost all automatic transmissions have a sequential mode, and ignores the most common kind of automatic transmission.
The article fails to say "get away from traffic" or "look for a way off the road into a large field."
The article fails to mention avoiding going downhill and to try to go uphill.
The article failed to say that hitting a car from behind is far less likely to kill you that hitting a bridge abutment.
The article ignores the damage done by scraping against something. Only do this if the alternative is to hit a car or something else.
Imaging this scenario: my brakes fail on the highway. I decide not to exit because that heads downhill. I turn on my flashers and move right, downshifting and applying the emergency brake. Cars honk at me and as I near the top of the hill I manage pull into the shoulder and stop.
