This Diehard White guy is triggered. :) Actually, I havn't found any Jarred Roux in Denver and would love the opportunity to try.
We had a Hoity Toity restaurant downtown that made a $22 seafood gumbo that tastes great, but was offensive due to the cost...it was never meant to be Haute Cuisine
- greenie_beans 3y agoi would never eat gumbo from an inland state.
- Damogran6 3y agoYay? Don't have much choice. Interestingly, the cheapest and most expensive restaurants around here all get their seafood on the same Jet flights.
- oh_sigh 3y agoTry stopping by Maxie's in Milwaukee before you repeat that statement :) Though maybe Lake Michigan is big enough for Wisconsin to not count as an inland state.
- greenie_beans 3y agoi live in alabama. that is heresy.
- oh_sigh 3y agoBetter be Mobile then - I think the rest of AL counts as inland.
- greenie_beans 3y ago> Better be Mobile then - I think the rest of AL counts as inland. nice snark, but no. i'm in birmingham, and a cajun restaurant three doors down from me had a shipment of fresh seafood this morning. and fresh leidenheimer bread. they used to feed my cat their old shrimp so i know how fresh it is.
- Kye 3y agoReminds me of arguments over BBQ. A timeless southern tradition.
- natebc 3y agoThe fun thing is that ... they're all right! Even the Texans!
- js2 3y agoI'm sorry, but the folks who prefer Western-style NC BBQ are definitely wrong. Eastern-style is where it's at.
- natebc 3y agoThey just haven't opened their eyes yet, bless their hearts. Being from Georgia where we didn't really have a unique BBQ identity (mostly a mix of SC and Western NC styles) but living in Eastern NC now i can appreciate all the styles. My preference is for BBQ though. Style: yes!
- neverartful 3y agoIndeed! Unless the cook was from south Louisiana and could reasonably prove it.
- MightyBuzzard 3y agoWhy not? Gumbo is just Cajun for "yeah, throw some of that in there". It's got no requirement to involve seafood.
- MisterBastahrd 3y agoI think you have gumbo confused with jambalaya. Jambalaya is the anything goes dish. Most people from the region have a fairly sacrosanct idea of what a gumbo is supposed to be.
