ChatGPT 4 can do 3-digit multiplication
- ksaj 3y agoTo me it doesn't make sense that such models can't just have functions for things that are obviously calculatable. Not doing that adds an accuracy risk that is unacceptable, just because it scraped a page once that had the same question, but with a wrong answer. And when you consider the amount of compute an LLM uses just to appear to add 1+1, it is utterly bizarre to do it that way. So I'm very unimpressed by its limited mathematical prowess. There are far better ways to do it, and no reason for it not to use them.
