You tend to lose a bit of your sense of smell right after you smoke. But no the stench is no different than vaping or regular smoking. Now I will say I live in a less populous area of Canada, but have been to Toronto/Montreal frequently, and haven't noticed it unless someone is actively vaping on the subway.
