There is no supply shortage, that leads to over production and inability of firms to make profit. Any artificial shortage through government mandate is easily circumvented on "the street". Kinda hard not to see this outcome.
- palmfacehn 3y ago"Heavily regulated market struggles, five years after bureaucratic plan enacted" Markets are doing fine here. Consumers and producers are still exchanging and producing value. Rather, anti-market forces are failing.
- permo-w 3y agoalcohol production is equally heavily regulated and yet somehow manages fine. perhaps this isn't an issue of bureaucracy, but an issue of time. when alcohol was legalised in the US, it took at least a decade for the legal market to eclipse bootlegging

- openthc 3y agoGood news is that cannabis started of heavily regulated and as the market & unstanding matures the regulations are being reduced (eg: CO/WA). New markets are heavily regulated (eg: NY), mostly because the regulators are still figuring things out and near-zero bureaucrats will play fast&loose -- more enforcement means they doing their job. Other markets that are easing in adult-use-rec alongside their existing medical -- and giving proper attention to the medical side -- have less of these issues (eg: ME). It's not like there was ever going to be zero issues -- but these things take time to settle out and laws move very, very slowly.
