Apple oppose Japanese government app store regulation, says it endangers society
- Arnt 3y agoWhen this was discussed a few years ago, a knowledgeable poster posted a list of markups in Chinese app stores, and they were generally higher than Apple's and Google's. Does anyone know how this has changed over time, or have any ideas as to why?
- yorwba 3y agoIn a world where app developers can offer APKs for download and handle payment themselves via low-fee payment processors, people who nonetheless choose to sell on a centralized app store are adversarially selected to accept higher fees for wider distribution. So competition from cheaper alternatives can paradoxically lead to platforms capturing a higher share of the revenue that flows through them, while simultaneously the share of revenue that doesn't flow through them increases.
- Arnt 3y agoAren't you describing Microsoft Windows? The revenue moved quite dramatically from that platform to the two big app-store platforms.
- ekcb 3y agoBut didn't they accept this in South Korea?
