I see all the comments about how managers are necessary. Let’s assume we can automate more and more HR tasks, what are managers required for besides that?

- eru 3y agoManagers in most companies are already not doing much HR. Especially in companies with a competent HR department.
- djohnston 3y agoI can say confidently that <5% of my time as an EM has anything to do with HR.

- djohnston 3y agoConflict resolution, planning, escalations, engineering work, performance evaluations, morale, career growth. I'd say most of the work I deal with is managing escalations from senior ICs of varying technical and organisational natures.
