Pepper X is now officially the hottest pepper in the entire world
- OldGuyInTheClub 3y agoWired profiled Ed Currie a few years ago and I admired his defense against incremental competition: Just have quantum leaps in reserve and posterize anyone who tries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uNpjqH-mQQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uNpjqH-mQQ And so, no one tried and he has to top himself by releasing something from the stash! For the chemically inclined, here's how to use a Soxhlet extractor to get very pure capsaicin for your very own. An underappreciated piece of labware... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQIMLEwQWL0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQIMLEwQWL0
- Quinzel 3y agoIn 2019 I had a Carolina Reaper because my teenage cousins dared me and it caused me a severe (possibly anaphylaxis) reaction. I was convinced I was going to die, I didn’t go to hospital because I was in a different country and didn’t have insurance. Never again will I eat hot peppers. So traumatised.
- josephcsible 3y ago> As a proprietary pepper, its pods and seeds are tightly guarded and won't be sold or released That's horrendously unethical. It's even worse than what Monsanto does.
- quantified 3y agoHmmm, comparing the two is interesting. Monsanto pwns the farming based on its gmo seeds, interrupting the ancient, traditional and one could argue human right of a farmer to own the full results of their harvest. But here, all someone could get is some product made from the pods. It's like if Monsanto had a continent of farmland and just planted its own seeds. Thankfully, Pepper X is more akin to a weapon than a food, so oh well.
