Ask HN: Migrating from Google Domains to Squarespace?
For developers who are using Google Domains, are you going to migrate to Squarespace? I'm not thrilled about the sale/transition and am looking for alternatives.
- verdverm 3y agoI'm looking at cloudflare, which is much more dev oriented
- ternera 3y agoI don't like the idea of Squarespace becoming a registrar, so I moved my domains over to Porkbun at the suggestion of the friend and have been quite pleased with them.
- johng 3y agoCloudflare here because their pricing is good. But they definitely have a limited set of features as far as domain registration goes. For example, you can only register one domain at a time.
- chiefalchemist 3y agoI recently started using NamesCheap.com mainly because a domain name's registration details (that show up on Who Is?) are kept private and that's included in their base price.
- johng 3y agoCloudflare does registration privacy as well. I think most decent registrars offer that for free now.
- chiefalchemist 3y agoYes and no. It's free in the sense they embed it in the price (i.e., it's not extra). But the price does vary across registrars.
- akerl_ 3y agoJust for my sanity, do you mean namecheap.com ?
- chiefalchemist 3y agoYes. My apologies for the typo.
- mikecoles 3y agoPorkbun.
- akerl_ 3y agoI switched to Gandi.net . I'd originally wanted to move to AWS Route53, but they don't support the TLDs for some of my domains. Gandi supports all the domains I have. I was between them and Porkbun, and what tipped me towards them is that they have a 1st party Terraform provider ( https://registry.terraform.io/providers/go-gandi/gandi/latest/docs https://registry.terraform.io/providers/go-gandi/gandi/lates... ).
