Hackers host malicious code on Binance chain to circumvent takedowns
- paulpauper 3y agowow that is evil and brilliant. losing the domain is always a major problem for botnets. goes to show how criminals and spammers are always staying a few steps ahead, using technologies in new and unexpected ways
- archontes 3y agoIt's hardly brilliant. People started storing CSAM on blockchains more than five years ago. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/mar/20/child-abuse-imagery-bitcoin-blockchain-illegal-content https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/mar/20/child-abu...
- paulpauper 3y agoum no this is different. this is calling a smart contract to change a domain to evade it being disabled. read the article
- extraduder_ire 3y agoFrom my rough estimation, this involved about 3.5 BNB to set up the smart contract. About $740 today, less back in 2022 when it was created. I assume they used generic/existing contract code for the storage, even if the article mentions "decompiling" it. IIRC "binance smart chain" is the same as ethereum in that decompiling code is damn near impossible with all of the rounds of optimization it goes through. Unless it's changed, most explorer sites need the source and options to be uploaded before they can show the source.
