I've been working on making games for the Playdate (https://play.date https://play.date) over the past few weeks, using their C SDK. it's my first time using C in a decade, since I first learned it in college, and I'm having a surprisingly great time with it. sure, there's tons of weird quirks that take some getting used to—but there's a lot that I've been surprised to find that I missed about it! it's fun to write code that does what you tell it to do, without having to worry about object ownership or any higher-level concerns like that—you just manage the memory yourself, so you know where everything is, and write functions that operate on it straightforwardly. if it's been awhile since you've touched C, I highly recommend giving it a try for a small game project.
