Unplugging Logitech USB Receivers Has Been Causing the Linux Kernel to Crash
- ok_dad 3y agoLogitech software is horrible. Their ghub garbage is constantly responsible for crashes and issues with my gaming only computer. Their hardware firmware is always having bugs and then isn’t updated for ages. Another rant, hardware wise, they’re a huge company, but they don’t develop products enough. Other companies who make racing wheels, for example, can put out several new bases, wheels, pedals, and etc. I bought the high end Logitech offering a year ago and they haven’t even offered a QR adapter so you can put your own wheel on the thing, nor other wheels, and not even close to a decent shifter.
- HankB99 3y agoIs it Logitech S/W in the kernel? The article mentions it was fixed in 6.6 but I did not see any mention of when it was introduced. I have not experienced the issue on 6.1 (Debian Bookworm) and wonder if 6.1 doesn't do that or if I've been lucky.
- jiehong 3y ago> As explained in the patch fixing the kernel crash on receiver USB disconnect, there are four time-of-check vs. time-of-use races that needed to be addressed. That and it crashes the whole kernel. “Separation of concerns” comes to mind, and QA strategy. Who’s gonna say “Rust” first?
- danielEM 3y agoInterestingly I recently bought couple of wireless mouse, all of them have issues or not working at all with Arch linux, while Logitech works like a charm and no crashes
