City Stuck with Harambe Memorial Bridge After Rogue Google Maps Edit
- ggm 3y agoIt's extremely difficult to get maps to be responsive meaningfully to change requests. I've driven in smallish country towns with signs saying "no through road, ignore Google maps" which isn't a hack to keep streets quiet: It's literally the truth. Traffic calming road changes which block streets simply don't get uplifted and if you try to submit a change request you get zero feedback. Rogue tagging is very annoying.
- bradley13 3y agoThis. We live on a road that has existed for around ten years. It has long been in OSM, but (despite repeated attempts) still is not in Google Maps. The satellite pictures of our area are 7-8 years old, also no update despite repeated requests. It's like Google put a huge effort into establishing their service, but they don't care any more.
- jpc0 3y agoTo be fair I've never had an issue getting stuff like that changed with a decent photo and description to the correct google tools.
- RadiozRadioz 3y agoIf you have enough reputation within Google Maps, your edits are applied immediately. I'm a "Local Guide" in my area, and I've made dozens of edits that all went through without question. If you build your rank high enough, they send out gifts occasionally (socks, gift cards, etc.). Granted, you get these small remediations in exchange for lots of free labor building up your rank with contributions.
