YouTube blocks Microsoft Edge – but it's nothing personal
- rmason 3y agoI can understand Google blocking ad blockers on YouTube. But blocking a browser from YouTube that allows ads but merely restricts the information Google can collect to personalize the ads? What's even wilder is Microsoft is so anxious to get people to use Edge that Windows is constantly trying to get you to switch. Yet they don't promote this feature which might get some people to voluntarily switch browsers to Edge? Doesn't make a lick of sense.

- brucethemoose2 3y agoI suspect most would choose it given an A/B choice.
- brucethemoose2 3y agoTo be fair, many users seem to have an almost unconscious reflex to install Chrome, as of there really is no other choice. Microsoft is too aggressive and does not include any other alternatives (and also managed to load Edge down with junk), but I think some pestering is OK.

- brucethemoose2 3y ago> Google will naturally argue that those watching YouTube for free need to offer something in the way of monetization for the company, and if they don’t want ads, then they should subscribe to YouTube Premium Thats because YouTube revenue needs to grow, in perpituity, not stay at some OK profitable and sustainable level.
