Ask HN: Which talks blew your mind?
- Wherecombinator 3y agoFirst saw this talk from Michael Levin on HN a few years back and it blew my mind. Ive been following him ever since. https://youtu.be/RjD1aLm4Thg?si=nL9EtRqdwconRpuW https://youtu.be/RjD1aLm4Thg?si=nL9EtRqdwconRpuW
- qup 3y agoFor me: same guy, but this talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwEKg5cjkKQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwEKg5cjkKQ I'm trying to devise an angle where I get to work on this.
- Wherecombinator 3y agoIf you find a way please leave a reply. I’ve a background in computer science but thinking of returning to academia. This and neuroscience in general interests me most
- qup 3y agoIt's a long-game for me. I don't have any of the qualifications, track record, or anything else that objectively qualifies me for this problem domain. Just unwavering belief in myself and my ability to learn anything. I'm skilling-up right now and seeing if I can find a peripheral angle to start some useful work. I do not plan to take an academic route--in fact, a CS route. Michael Levin is vocally looking for people in CS (ML) to help work on things. Maybe you already qualify. It's the most important problem: I'm going to work on it, with or without permission or endorsement. Cheers.
- cookiengineer 3y agoBack in the days when I started with game dev hobby projects: "Juice it or lose it", which I think also includes valueable lessons to making "joyful" UX in apps, too. [1] [1] https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg
- j-rom 3y agoVery cool talk! I recently made a word game and will be applying these principals.
- mikewarot 3y agoI found Dan Gelbart's series about building prototypes [1] to be fascinating, and helpful. I was especially impressed with his video about flexures.[2] [1] https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSGA1wWSdWaTXNhz_YkoPADUUmF1L5x2F https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSGA1wWSdWaTXNhz_YkoP... - girishso 3y agoRuby on Rails demo by DHH back in 2005/6. I was blown away that he created a blog application with comments in 15 minutes, I was working on Asp.NET back then and it would have taken me about a week to do that. https://youtu.be/Gzj723LkRJY?si=iy1nfjnNBeQnQsKo https://youtu.be/Gzj723LkRJY?si=iy1nfjnNBeQnQsKo
