Thank you @jacooper. Absolutely agree. I wasn’t a teen yet when the Iraq war and WMD propaganda happened, but the shameless lying and misinformation I’ve seen about the alleged misdeeds of Hamas is repulsive and abhorrent. These hypocrites want to protect a “rules based order” where those rules get applied selectively and capriciously.
- s1artibartfast 3y agodownvoting and I all explain why. The Israel Palestine is a complex situation with a lot of pain and suffering on both sides. Thoughtful discussion is not served by yo-yoing between extremes of Hamas did nothing wrong-Israel did nothing wrong. It is also pretty tacky to talk about "alleged misdeeds of hamas" in response to a letter about dead friends and co-workers. Instead, I think more companies should be transparent about employees with family dead in Gaza as well.
- zogrodea 3y agoThat’s reasonable-ish. It is inconsiderate to bring that up to someone whose innocent relative died (not that he can/will see that). However, the complexity of the situation doesn’t make it any less clear who was the aggressor and who unjustly harmed the other more. I see extremely outsized support in favour of the aggressor who disproportionately harmed the victim. What choice does one have but to retaliate and try to get one’s bully to stop, when peaceful opposition (like BDS) is illegal? I hope Huang comes to a position where he can empathise with innocent civilians on both sides. There are people on both sides who have lost children like that. Edit: To be specific, the alleged misdeeds I referred to ware of rumours that Hamas beheaded children.
