Amazon issues warning about major change for Kindle users starting next month
- seanthemon 3y agoThey say this is about support but then allows current Mobi's to stay and function.. so just say it: your problem is Piracy, amazon, you greedy toad.
- duskwuff 3y agoI don't buy that explanation. Kindle has always supported "sideloading" of supported formats over USB, and that isn't changing; what Amazon is withdrawing support for is automatic conversion of files in the older MOBI format. If I had to guess, I'd simply say that Amazon simply wants to stop having to deal with MOBI, either for licensing reasons, or simply because it's a bizarre old format (created in 2000! for Palm Pilot!).
- seanthemon 3y agoYou make a very fair point, I only speculated but I do feel it's odd they continue to allow to support existing mobi's, how does this stop them from having to support the format?
- duskwuff 3y ago> I do feel it's odd they continue to allow to support existing mobi's Those files have, presumably, already been converted.
- seanthemon 3y agoFair point, thank you!
