YouTube Anti-Adblock and Ads
- nathias 3y agoI will never turn off adblocking, maybe alternatives will get some extra users now.
- mindslight 3y agoIs Google's crusade affecting yt-dlp as well? Because while I'm often just lazy and use the web UI, if they're going to make it even more hostile I will just take it as a push to use a different player.
- GravitasFailure 3y agoIt hasn't affected my usage so far. I even sometimes use yt-dlp when YouTube proper won't serve a video without pausing to buffer every ten seconds, so in some ways it works better than the web interface.

- Alifatisk 3y agoThis will lead to a cat-and-mouse game, I don't know if Youtube really want to go down this path. If Youtube just calmed down with the ads a bit, I would happily turn off my adblock. In the old days, they had banners in the video which I didn't mind. Could that be a good complement? Interrupting the video with 2-3 consecutive ads every 5-10 minute is really disturbing, I know this isn't exactly all Youtubes fault since Content creators themselfs can bombard the video with more ads. At some point, it feels like I watched more ads than the video itself. On the other hand, I understand that content creators deserve good compensation for their invested time, but I don't think fighting adblocks is a good solution.
- squigz 3y agoFrankly, FOSS developers should just avoid reddit for stuff like this.
