- mikeyouse 3y agoNah, the photographer is clearly IDed and you can find the pic on Getty; https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/fireball-erupts-from-an-israeli-airstrike-in-gaza-city-on-news-photo/1720214468 https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/fireball-erupt... Plenty of other shots of airstrikes in their portfolio as well, e.g., https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/missile-explodes-in-gaza-city-during-an-israeli-air-strike-news-photo/1713633997 https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/missile-explod... https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/fireball-erupts-during-israeli-bombardment-of-gaza-city-on-news-photo/1715805520 https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/fireball-erupt... https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/plume-of-smoke-rises-in-the-sky-of-gaza-city-during-an-news-photo/1714977072 https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/plume-of-smoke...
- jeffbee 3y agoThe same photographer has taken similar photos from the same point of view, of the building in the background being blown up in various different ways, at least twice before. That's probably the view from his apartment or something.
- ribosometronome 3y agoTerrifying view.
- jeffbee 3y agoBased on the past photos I don't think they are as close as the crop on the CNN article suggests.
- anigbrowl 3y agoIt circulated widely yesterday. Why do you think it's digitally generated? 'pretty clearly' is your subjective impression of 'how military explosives should look', no?
- sixothree 3y agoI'm not who you're responding to, but the cropping along with the extreme lack of texture in the building make it seem artificial.
- anigbrowl 3y agoEvery pro photographer crops for impact and composition, it's part of the job. The lack of texture is probably a function of distance, time of day, and atmospheric conditions. I think if it was fake people could quickly point out that no such mosque exists in Gaza, or that it's an altered pic of some mosque in a different region.
- nyc_data_geek1 3y agoAlso I think the general low resolution of the photo left me with the impression that the towers lacked any texture on their surface, which is what made me think it might've been CG.
- nyc_data_geek1 3y agoYeah, this is what I was seeing. Edited GP to remove any insinuation it wasn't genuine - I did not intend to mean this was disinfo, more so maybe that CNN was just getting lazy in sourcing their media.
- edrxty 3y agoNeeds more Michael Bay. I think they're noticing the lighting on the towers looking kinda cgi but it's just a dawn shot so the lighting will always look a bit aggressive.
