The 'illusion of endless progress' is the knowledge that built the internet in the first place. Many of the concepts were first established from the 1800s, and 1920s-1980s. I am so, so tired of the constant ragging on the past as if it was another planet. And the persecution of brits and agnostics. If the old world guys were geniunely a dangerous impact on the world, we wouldn't be so unknowing by default. There's a constant thread of fate spun from The Past to today's technology and to say otherwise is a catastrophe. You're going to get the complete removal of old world zombies, there's no choice. And it's going to create a vacuum that sucks you down with it.
