My dad, Joseph J. Daly, was a civilian employee of the Coast Guard at the statioin near Wildwood Crest, N.J.
Dad built, tested, and deployed a lot of the Loran transmitters. He delivered one to Iwo Jima during the second flag raising.
Dad also took a trip in a van with Loran equipment. The van drove up the Garden State Parkway so they could measure the accuracy.
He and I talked a lot about high-Q notch filters, used to handle local stray electromagnetic problems. We also talked a lot about temperature control for clock stability.
Many years later I happened to meet the Coast Guard guy whose job it was to shut down Loran.
