American politics runs on fear. If it makes you less afraid of voting for a different party, it is not in the interest of the party.
Slavery is the original sin of the American Consitution - parties are the second sin.

The Constitution literally doesn't even envision their existence, to the point that the procedure for electing the president and vice president had to be changed to account for their existence.
- ceejayoz 3y agoPerhaps not anticipating the rise of parties is the sin.
- InTheArena 3y agoNot acting to constrain them. If you read the federalist papers, you will see that they considered it. They just couldn't figure out how to resolve that.
