Some years ago, my son took a turn too close, and clipped one of DC's granite curbs, damaging the sidewall of the tire. The first tire shop I called (in Maryland, just over the line) quoted me a price, which when I showed up turned out to omit the tire disposal fee for the ruined one. I went next door and paid about the same price. My recollection is that the disposal fee was somewhere between one and two thirds of the new tire price.
