Soft-drink bottles in the Nordic countries are returned to the supermarket, then washed and refilled. They are not recycled but reused. They are made from a noticeably higher standard of bottle than in other countries, and IIRC there is a code etched onto the bottle to mark how many times it has been refilled. Of course, eventually the bottle will have to be replaced, so new plastic is still consumed, but the system still ensures vast reuse and has for decades now.
